Day 18: GA Unions Support
Immigration Reform. V-Day.
Thursday 02/14/2013. Eighteenth day of the Georgia Legislative Session.
Today we had a great press conference sponsored by the Georgia Unions supporting
Immigration Reform. The press conference had the
format of a panel, with great presentations of all the speakers. I seriously
need to find out how to take pictures and record videos at the same time with
my camera, there were moments I wish I could upload right now. (Rep. Pedro Marin
pulling a ‘MarcoRubio’ on top of the list) The presentations were clear
supporting a path for citizenship, and also a consideration to make
take border security and immigration reform as two separated issues. I agree
with that.
Also, we had the 1 Billion Rising event at the Capitol as well. There some extra videos here too.
A little bill that might worth some attention showed in the First Readers
of the House.
It is HB324, by Reps. Dollar (R-Marietta, of course) and Ramsey (R-Peachtree City, author of the infamous HB87 of 2011). This bill would give the discretion to
develop policies and regulations regarding higher education to the Georgia Student
Finance Commission, and the board of 14 directors of the Georgia Student Finance Authority, which are boards appointed by the Governor, ergo pretty much under political party lines and unaffected by constituents. Keeping an eye on it and sending
calls of actions in case are needed.
Happy V-Day Everybody.
